John 2:1-11 | Is God Great?
- When you hear the phrase ’God is great’ what thoughts come to mind?
- Does God seem largely absent in our world today?
- Read John 2.1-11
- John gives us lots of detail at the outset. Does this give some sense of the scale of this gathering?
- Was Mary asking Jesus a question or making a statement in verse 3?
- How do we understand Jesus’ reaction and then Mary’s directive to the servants?
- Imagine you were one of the servants, how would you have been feeling in following the instructions from Jesus?
- The servants faithfully do all that they were commanded, and the outcome is a complete surprise. How do you explain this?
- The response of the master is a well-known expression ‘you have saved the best to last’. What do you make of this?
- What significance does John give to this miracle?
- In John’s gospel there are seven signs and seven sayings? Can you recall any of the others?
- How did this seemingly obscure and domestic miracle cast a light onto the glory of Jesus and point to something greater?
- In what sense did the disciples believe in him?
