  1. Read Deuteronomy 25:5-10. What is the role of the guardian/kinsman redeemer? Was Boaz required to redeem Ruth?
  2. Think about the choices Boaz and the unnamed kinsman each make in v2-10. What do you learn about each man's priorities?
  3. Remember what Naomi thought God was doing in her life when she was empty of wealth, family and status? When she was at her lowest was she truly empty? What part did God play in filling her emptiness?
  4. Do you believe that God can change the bitterness of your hard experiences? Explain.
  5. Are there ways that God has shown his faithfulness to you and changed your sorrow to joy?
  6. In what ways is Ruth similar to us?
  7. What does Ruth say in this passage?
  8. Life for us can seem untidy with many loose ends. How do we reconcile that with God's purpose? Cf Hebrews 11
  9. Read vs 21-22 and then Matthew 1:5-6. What is significant about this family line?
  10. Why do you think Ruth is mentioned in Matthew's genealogy when it's usually only the male line that is mentioned?
