Galatians 6:1-10 | Pride

Pride | Galatians 6:1-10

How would you describe pride?

In what ways could you be described as being proud?

Does it really matter all that much?

Look up some Proverbs about pride.

For example: Proverbs 3.34; 8.13; 11.2; 16.18-19 plus many others.

‘Pride goes before a fall’!

How can pride destroy all that we hold dear?

Five signs of the link between insecurity and pride

  1. You compare yourself to others
  2. Your self worth is determined by your latest performance
  3. You can’t celebrate someone else’s success
  4.  You squeeze gifted people out of your life
  5. You want some say in everything

Read Galatians 6.1-10

  1. How can we have a distorted sense of self?
  2. In what way can there be such a thing as true pride?
  3. How do we reap what we sow? How can our hearts become hardened?
  4. How can we help each other with our personal challenge of having a realistic view of ourselves?

Cultivating Humility

  1. Never lose your gratitude

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures for ever. 1 Chronicles 16.34

2. Open your notebook

Learn from others. Keep a journal of humility.

3. Push other people into the spotlight

4. Get ridiculously honest with yourself and God

Read James 3.13-18 and reflect on how it currently describes how you often think and feel.

13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you harbour bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such ‘wisdom’ does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.

Pray together for the Lord to help you to have wisdom from above.
