 Jacob : Crippling in a Chasm | Genesis 32:22-32

1.      When we think about prayer, we sometimes talk about ‘prevailing prayer’. What do you think about this idea?

 

2.      When you re-read this strange story at Jabbok, what thoughts came to mind?

 

3.      Jacob intended to bless Jacob and for him to be part of the outworking of God’s blessing to Abraham and his descendants. How come it all proved to be so very complicated for him?

 

4.      Look again at the story of his birth and his falling out with Esau in Genesis 25.19-34 and then 26.34-35;27.1-45. How does he get God’s blessing?

 

5.      On his journey to live with Laban Jacob has an amazing dream in Genesis 28.18-22. What is the significance of this dream?

 

6.      It’s a long story but how does Jacob experience both blessing and many trials while living with Laban in Genesis 29.1-35?

 

7.      How does Jacob react to the news that Esau is coming to meet him in Genesis 32.1-21?

 

8.      Who wrestles with whom in the chasm in Genesis 32.22-32?

 

9.      Why does God choose to wrestle with Jacob? Why does God allow it to go all night?

 

10.  What does Jacob and learn and receive from the end of this all night tussle?

 

11.  As he leaves Jacob is limping? What is this a reminder of for him and for us?
