When you think of the word ‘holy’ how do you react?

Read 1 Peter 1.13-22.2

1.           The old adage is where there is a ‘therefore’ you have to ask what it is there for! What is the link to last week’s reading?

2.           How should we now be thinking?

3.           Is ignorance an excuse?

4.           Why should we seek to be holy? What does this mean?

5.           Why would we live in reverent fear?

6.           How was our salvation obtained?

7.           Why do you think Peter returns to the resurrection of Jesus?

8.           What is the link between purifying ourselves and loving others? (see verse 22)

9.           What is perishable and what is imperishable?

10.        How would you describe growth in salvation?

11.        Is there a link between how we should be thinking and how we should be acting?

12.        Go back to your reactions to the word ‘holy’ and reflect on what we see in verse 15.

13.        Peter seems to be very focussed on the imperishable nature of the work of Christ and our salvation. Why do you think it is being so fully emphasised? Why is it often hard for us to sense that it is so secure and sound?

14.        In what sense does the ‘word of the Lord endure forever’?

15.        What is the connection between the word of God and our spiritual growth?

16.        List the sorts of behaviours that Peter lists as being signs of godliness?

17.        Is it possible to be really well thought out as a believer but to struggle to make it a reality in our lives?

19.        As western Christians we tend to read the Scriptures individualistically. Why is verse 22 a healthy corrective for us? Is there any relationship between spiritual growth and holiness and Christian community?
