1.           What are the things in your life that fill you with a sense of hope?

At First Glance

Read 1 Peter 1.1-12

1.           Who is Peter writing his letter to?

2.           What amazing status does Paul give to these scattered believers? (v.1-2)

3.           Read verses 3-5 and try and unpack what is being said:

a.           How has God shown his mercy?

b.           What is this hope we now enjoy?

c.           How is it a living hope?

d.           Why is it so secure?

4.           As the letter continues, we will gain a better insight into the trials they faced. Why have they had to endure them?

5.           Even though these believers lived in the first Christian century, how is their situation similar to ours? See verses 8-9

6.           What is the link between the work of the prophets of old and people being believers in Peter’s day and even as far off as us today?

8.           Our faith may go up and down, but what God has given us seems remarkably safe and secure. How can this be? Look at all of the assurances offered in verses 3-5

11.        How can we love someone we can’t see? How was their situation unique and very different to ours? At the same time how is it very similar?
