Luke 20:27-40 | Marriage and resurrection
Why are incredibly tacky programs like MAFS so popular?
When you think about life after death how would you describe it?
Read Luke 20.27-40
1. Was
this a serious question from the Sadducees? What were they really seeking to
do?
2. Does
Jesus engage with their question or something else?
3. What
big issue does Jesus step straight into?
4. Why
is there no marriage in the age to come? Is this a shocking statement?
5. We
all need human community, so how will that be expressed in the age to come? How
will that be similar to today and how will it be so much better?
6. We
are children of the resurrection is an amazing thought. What do you think Jesus
means and how does he illustrate this idea in verse 37?
7. How
would you explain verse 38 in your own words?
8. Jesus
draws a mixed reaction (v.39-40) Why would this be the case?
Reflecting
· How
would you describe what it means to be a resurrected person?
· How
will our future life together as God’s people be similar and different?
· Why
is there no marriage in the age to come?
· Does
this have implications for those who are married today?
· Does
the church have a healthy attitude to single people?
· How
do we access this life to come? (see verse 35)
Has
anything in this passage and discussion surprised or challenged you?
