John 5:16-47 | Authority

Jewish law required witnesses to testify on a person’s behalf, otherwise it would just be their word against another’s.

What are the four “witnesses” Jesus refers to to back his claim?

(Hint - vss 33, 36, 39, 46)

What are some of the specific Old Testament passages you think of which looked forward to Jesus? Eg. Ezek 34:11-16, Isa 52:13 - 53:12, Micah 5:2, Isa 7:14, Psa 22:16 & Zech12:10

In John 5:16-18 Jesus wants his hearers to realise that God is working 24/7. He doesn’t rest up on the sabbath. Have you ever thought that God was having a little break and left you on your own for a while? How did you respond? What changed your mind?

Why is a good knowledge of the Bible not enough to make someone a Christian?

See Jn 5:38-40 & 5:24
