Touch
The forbidden
Institutes a yearning
The longer the absence
The stronger the pull
Just a touch on the arm
Just a pat on the shoulder
A hug would be even better
The warmth of a body
The pulsing beat of a heart
The softness of fur
The response to a stroke
The purr of contentment
The connection with another
I’ve never wanted a pet
But now I want a cat
Unusual thoughts in unusual times
We have been created by God
(With varied needs for touch)
Whose very nature is relation
He became one of us
His touch healed
His touch restored
His touch connected
His touch mattered
The human touch
An essential component of humanity
Hence our grief when it’s forbidden
But He knows and He understands
