Cricket Victoria

by Mike Flynn (Vicar)

Just as our indoor cricket competition gears up for its 20th season we have had notice from Cricket Victoria that our St. Columb's Premiership League is in the running for an award.  We have been selected as one of two finalists for the Indoor Facility of the Year in the A sport for all awards.

This nomination is due to the diversity of players as well as the inclusive nature of the competition. No one needs to be a great cricketer (our grade system will sort that out) and we welcome people from lots of different backgrounds and convictions.
It is a competition run in an old church hall by a church with a long evangelical history. A place where people pray before games, see a Bible verse on the wall, can ask for prayer and can hear the good news about Jesus at our bigger events. It is not strange to followers of Jesus that it is our commitment to him that has produced the kind of welcome on offer and made us at least useful for those who have passed through this ministry for near 20 seasons.

I am thankful to God for the many people from St Columb's and the competition who have made this ministry possible over the last 10 years - especially to Peter Horsford our Sports Chaplain. And no matter what decision is announced on the 18th of March it is humbling that God continues to use this crazy experiment.
