Skills for praying well

Skills for praying well- Mike Flynn (Vicar)

Please don't come to this if you struggle with open prayer in groups with people you may not know, or with emotion in worship or with the expectation that God, through His Word and by His Spirit will act in our lives now. Then again, maybe you are precisely the person this is for.
At our 6pm service during October and the first half of November, we are basing our worship time around 'The Prayer Course'.  A series of short video interviews with the founder of the 24/7 Prayer movement - Peter Greig. We will eat together, sing and speak praise together, discuss together and pray together in small groups each evening. There is no charge for this course.
The reason we are taking on The Prayer Course is that many of the participants from our recent Alpha Course expressed an interest in learning more about prayer. Also, as a pastor, I am often asked about how prayer works, how and if prayers are answered, how can I find time to pray, why don't I experience God in my daily life?
Prayer is where the rubber hits the road in a relationship with God - for Christians prayer is not a ritual that must be done in order to garner favour. It is a gift waiting to be unwrapped and used well. Like all gifts, to use it well will take practise and a little training.
Following The Prayer Course our Biblical teaching series in the run up to Christmas will be considering how prayers in the Bible are answered. We will learn that the prayers of Daniel, Jesus and Paul are answered in surprising ways.
